Preserving the Past: Researching Historic Homes

Preserving the Past: Researching Historic Homes

Every house holds a history, and most owners want to know what came before them. Join Rebecca Torsell, Ford House’s Director of Historic Preservation, for a lecture on historic home research.

You’ll learn methods for finding answers to questions about your home’s history, including how to research home ownership, occupancy, additions or subtractions, and period of construction, and how to understand your property’s historic description. Rebecca will also give a brief introduction to common architectural styles in the region and house types.

This lecture will give you practical tools and resources to begin your own research. Discover where to look, what clues to pay attention to, and how records, architecture, and other sources can help piece together the story of a home over time. You may be surprised by just how much history is waiting to be uncovered right at your own address.
