This exclusive 60-minute guided experience takes you into rarely seen areas of the Main Residence, offering a fascinating look at how the estate functioned behind the scenes. Led by an expert guide, you will explore staff-only hallways, staircases, and service spaces that reveal the innovation, care, and craftsmanship that supported daily life at Ford House.
Highlights of the tour may include:
- Staircases and staff corridors not open on standard visits
- The attic infirmary, with insight into estate-era healthcare and daily operations
- The basement and underground tunnel connecting the Main Residence to the Power House, subject to availability
Throughout the tour, guides share lesser-known stories and details that bring new depth to the history of the estate, making this experience especially appealing for repeat visitors and history enthusiasts. Space is very limited, and this tour frequently sells out. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended.

This 60-minute tour includes multiple staircases and narrow spaces. It is not wheelchair accessible and may be challenging for guests with mobility limitations. We recommend comfortable shoes and advance ticket purchase, as space is limited.
Tunnel Note: The underground tunnel is a unique part of this tour but may be closed on select days for preservation work. Please call 313-884-4222 to confirm tunnel access on your tour date.
