Lecture

Eleanor's Lucile Dresses

Explore Edwardian couture, historic gowns, and Eleanor Ford’s unforgettable fashion story.

Step into Edwardian high fashion and explore the legacy of Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon, professionally known as Lucile, one of the era’s most influential designers. Follow her journey from dressing friends to opening boutiques in London, New York, and Chicago, and discover how she helped shape modern couture. In April 1916, Eleanor Ford and her sister Josephine traveled to New York to select Eleanor’s trousseau and wedding dress, both designed by Lucile. View newly conserved original gowns from that historic shopping trip and experience the lasting impact of Lucile and the House of Lucile.

Lisa Worley, Director of Material Culture at Ford House, and Claire Zimmeth, Conservation & Collections Manager, lead this engaging talk, bringing Lucile’s designs and Eleanor’s fashion story to life through craftsmanship, history, and style.
